There are three different species, and all feed on nothing but blood: the common vampire bat, the hairy-legged vampire bat, and the white-winged vampire bat. Unsurprisingly, their front teeth are much sharper than their fruit-fed cousins. They also have special thermoreceptors on their noses that help them find the areas in which blood is near the surface of their victims’ skin.
Despite their name, vampire bats do not really SUCK their victims’ blood - they instead lap at the site where their prey is bleeding. They also have a substance in their saliva called draculin that prevents their victims’ blood from coagulating!
