Over the years he has refused blood transfusions and surgery on numerous occasions because he is a Jehovah’s Witness. However, the tumor has made him blind in one eye and is beginning to block his air passages.
There has been speculation on the Internet that Mestre chose to have surgery and subsequently bled to death, but we have no solid evidence that this is the case.
