hese eyes are not eyes like you and I have. These eyes (known as "ocelli") are microscopic eye spots at the tips of their arms (also called "rays"). These spots are just groups of cells, with no cornea or iris. They only allow the starfish to see light and darkness.
This allows the starfish to see movement. It's also really useful when the starfish is out of the water. A starfish may dry out if it's out in the sun for too long. The eye spots help the starfish find shade.
The picture? I don't think it's a starfish, but it's pretty creepy looking whatever it is.
